Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems / William Boyce
Titre : Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : William Boyce, Auteur Année de publication : 2022 Importance : 1 vol. (736 p.) Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-119-82051-2 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Mathématique Mots-clés : Mathématique Index. décimale : 510 Mathématique Résumé :
Boyce’s Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems is written from the viewpoint of the applied mathematician, with diverse interest in differential equations, ranging from quite theoretical to intensely practical–and usually a combination of both. The intended audience for the text is undergraduate STEM students taking an introductory course in differential equations. The main prerequisite for engaging with the program is a working knowledge of calculus, gained from a normal two or three semester course sequence or its equivalent, while a basic familiarity with matrices is helpful.
This new edition of the book aims to preserve, and to enhance the qualities that have made previous editions so successful. It offers a sound and accurate exposition of the elementary theory of differential equations with considerable material on methods of solution, analysis, and approximation that have proved useful in a wide variety of applications.Côte titre : Fs/25047 Elementary Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems [texte imprimé] / William Boyce, Auteur . - 2022 . - 1 vol. Titre : Elementary Differential Equations: Applications, Models, and Computing Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Roberts Charles, Auteur Année de publication : 2023 Importance : 1 vol. (554 p.) Format : 24 cm ISBN/ISSN/EAN : 978-1-03-247584-4 Langues : Anglais (eng) Catégories : Mathématique Mots-clés : Mathématique Index. décimale : 510 Mathématique Résumé :
The past century in how solutions to differential equations are calculated. However, the way the topic has been taught in introductory courses has barely changed to reflect these advances, which leaves students at a disadvantage. This second edition has been created to address these changes and help instructors facilitate new teaching methods and the latest tools, which includes computers.
The text is designed to help instructors who want to use computers in their classrooms. It accomplishes this by emphasizing and integrating computers in teaching elementary or ordinary differential equations. Many examples and exercises included in the text require the use of computer software to solve problems. It should be noted that since instructors use their own preferred software, this book has been written to be independent of any specific software package.

I used this book in the late 1960s, and it still sits in a carton on a shelf in the basement. It is good as a textbook, requiring very little in terms of prior mathematics, just basic calculus. Personally, I think that the author gave 2-forms only passing attention, concentrating on 1-forms. But his goal is the Gauss-Bonnet Theorem, and he is really interested in arbitrary surfaces embedded in Euclidean 3-space. And the path he takes needs 1-forms.Note de contenu :
Sommaire
Calculs on euclidean space
Frame fieid
Euclidean geometry
Caiculus on asurface
Shape operators
Geometry of surfaces
Riemannian geometry
