During this work, a synthesis of three α-aminophosphonate derivatives was developed: two α-aminophosphonate
esters and an α-aminophosphonic acid. The derivatives were synthesized by two methods: a classic reflux method
and another under microwave with the aim of choosing the right method in terms of yield and reaction time
through a comparative study. α-Aminophosphonic acid (MTA) and α-aminophosphonate ester (MTE) were
synthesized from m-toluidine, while α-aminophosphonate ester was synthesized from 2-amino-5-methylphenol.
All the compounds obtained were characterized by spectroscopic microanalysis methods: UV-Vis, FT-IR, 1H-
NMR and 31P-NMR. The analysis results are in good agreement with the proposed structures. The DFT theory
calculations were carried out using the Gaussian09 software, using the 6-31G++(d,p) basis. The energies of the
limiting orbitals were presented and used to predict global reactivity indices. Mulliken atomic charges, dipole
moment and thermodynamic properties were also calculated and discussed. Additionally, the target compounds
were evaluated for their antioxidant, antimicrobial, and enzymatic activities in vitro. Biological assays indicated
that these compounds exhibited potent acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase inhibitory activity. They
have also proven to be excellent antioxidant agents, possessing remarkable antibacterial and antifungal properties |
