Construit à partir d'un cours de mécanique des fluides donné par l'auteur à l'Université de Lille, ce livre a d'abord été écrit pour les étudiants de Maîtrise de mécanique ou de Maîtrise de mathématiques, option mécanique, pour lesquels il peut constituer un manuel d'accompagnement pédagogique. L'ambition du livre se porte toutefois plus loin, et une large part est réservée aux domaines que l'on aborde dans des cours plus approfondis (DEA, DESS ou initiation à la recherche). Enfin, ce livre peut compléter sur un plan plus théorique la formation de base dispensée dans les écoles d'ingénieurs.
S'adressant à un public qui a déjà reçu, un premier contact avec la discipline, l'ouvrage est composé de trois parties : une première partie remet tout d'abord en place quelques notions théologiques fondamentales rarement examinées en mécanique des fluides. Une deuxième partie, plus appliquée, concerne l'aérodynamique pratique avec des applications aéronautiques. De plus, la recherche d'une cohérence de toute la physique fondamentale conduit à des théories nouvelles qui, dans un cadre quantique général, contiennent l'essentiel de la relativité générale.
Cette Introduction à la relativité générale est conçue de façon à apporter au lecteur, de façon simplifiée, toutes les notions mathématiques nécessaires pour comprendre cette théorie. Deux chapitres donnent les éléments essentiels sur le calcul tensoriel et la théorie des espaces de Riemann. Un chapitre est consacré aux idées qui, historiquement, sont à l'origine du développement mathématique de cette théorie.
Des tests expérimentaux d'une très grande précision ont confirmé, dans le détail, la pertinence de la relativité générale. L'auteur décrit les principaux résultats actuels qui valident cette théorie. Deux chapitres donnent les éléments essentiels sur le calcul tensoriel et la théorie des espaces de Riemann. Un chapitre est consacré aux idées qui, historiquement, sont à l'origine du développement mathématique de cette théorie. Des tests expérimentaux d'une très grande précision ont confirmé, dans le détail, la pertinence de la relativité générale. L'auteur décrit les principaux résultats actuels qui valident cette théorie. Un dernier chapitre est consacré à la cosmologie dont la relativité générale permit, pour la première fois dans l'histoire des idées, d'envisager des bases scientifiques.Note de contenu :
