Cet ouvrage se distingue des manuels traditionnels d'équations différentielles de par la place plus importante qu'il réserve aux applications, notamment à la mécanique, et de par son exposé conçu dans un esprit plus géométrique. On y trouvera peu de calculs mais par contre beaucoup de notions inhabituelles pour un cours d'équations différentielles (flots, groupes à un paramètre, difféomorphismes, espaces tangents, fibrés vectoriels) et des exemples empruntés à la mécanique (systèmes conservatifs à un degré de liberté, théorie des petites oscillations, résonance paramétrique).
Le présent ouvrage s'adresse aux élèves de deuxième et troisième cycles des universités et des instituts, ayant un programme poussé en mathématiques. Nul doute qu'il constituera également un précieux instrument pour les spécialistes en mathématiques et en leurs applications.Note de contenu :

Un livre qui vise à rendre aussi évident que possible le lien entre la physique mathématique et le calcul numérique en électromagnétisme.
L'ouvrage développe les méthodes d'équations intégrales, depuis leur déduction rigoureuse à partir des équations de Maxwell, jusqu'aux approximations du calcul numérique. Il expose les principes généraux de la mise en équations des problèmes d'antennes et de diffusion.
Dans une première partie théorique l'accent est mis sur les notions d'impédance et de projecteurs, les propriétés des opérateurs intégraux singuliers de surface et celles des modes de résonance. La seconde partie illustre la théorie par les applications où une symétrie permet de réduire la dimension des problèmes. Les problèmes à symétrie de révolution conduisent ainsi à des systèmes d'équations intégrales à une dimension. Les calculs analytiques sont poussés aussi loin que possible en étudiant les approximations numériques de leurs noyaux. Puis sont exposés les principes de la résolution numérique des équations intégrales à une dimension. Un livre qui vise à rendre aussi évident que possible le lien entre la physique mathématique et le calcul numérique en électromagnétisme.
L'ouvrage développe les méthodes d'équations intégrales, depuis leur déduction rigoureuse à partir des équations de Maxwell, jusqu'aux approximations du calcul numérique. Il expose les principes généraux de la mise en équations des problèmes d'antennes et de diffusion.
Dans une première partie théorique l'accent est mis sur les notions d'impédance et de projecteurs, les propriétés des opérateurs intégraux singuliers de surface et celles des modes de résonance. La seconde partie illustre la théorie par les applications où une symétrie permet de réduire la dimension des problèmes. Les problèmes à symétrie de révolution conduisent ainsi à des systèmes d'équations intégrales à une dimension. Les calculs analytiques sont poussés aussi loin que possible en étudiant les approximations numériques de leurs noyaux. Puis sont exposés les principes de la résolution numérique des équations intégrales à une dimension.
