Cette édition diffère de la deuxième par l'addition de près de 100 pages consacrées à la phase quantique (ou géométrique, ou Berry), un sujet qui n'existait pas lors de la rédaction de ce livre. Les changements dans le reste du livre consistent en des corrections d'un petit nombre de fautes d'impression. Alors qu'il peut sembler que l'ajout de deux chapitres sur la phase quantique surestime un sujet actuellement à la mode, ils complètent réellement le développement de la théorie quantique comme indiqué dans ce livre. Nous commençons avec des modèles simples, les synthétisant en "molécules" compliquées. Avec les nouveaux chapitres, nous terminons par des «molécules» compliquées, en les divisant en parties plus simples. Ce processus de division d'un système complexe en parties donne tout naturellement naissance à une théorie de jauge dont la phase géométrique est une manifestation - avec des conséquences non seulement théoriques, mais observables expérimentalement. Pour cette raison, la phase géométrique n'est pas une simple mode, mais une découverte qui conservera son importance pour toujours et qui doit être discutée dans les manuels de mécanique quantique. La première édition de ce livre a été publiée en 1978 et une nouvelle édition espagnole en 1989. Lorsque la première édition est apparue, le professeur A. Martin a suggéré qu'une traduction en anglais serait intéressante. Avec le professeur A. S. Wightman, il a essayé de convaincre un éditeur américain de traduire le livre. Des problèmes financiers rendirent cela impossible. Plus tard, les professeurs E. H. Lieb et W. Thirring ont proposé de confier à Springer-Verlag la traduction de notre livre, et le professeur W. BeiglbOck a accepté le plan. Nous sommes profondément reconnaissants à tous, car sans leur intérêt et leur enthousiasme ce livre n'aurait pas été traduit. Au cours des douze années qui se sont écoulées depuis la publication de la première édition, de belles expériences confirmant certains des principes fondamentaux de la mécanique quantique ont été réalisées et la théorie s'est enrichie de nouveaux développements importants. En raison de tout cela a été payé dans cette édition anglaise, ce qui implique que des modifications ont été apportées à plusieurs parties du livre. Ces modifications sont, d'une part, les expériences d'interférométrie neutronique sur la dualité onde-particule et la rotation des fermions, et les expériences cruciales d'Aspect et al. Avec la technologie laser sur les inégalités de Bell et, d'autre part Quelques résultats récents sur l'ordre des niveaux dans les potentiels centraux, les nouvelles techniques d'analyse des oscillateurs anharmoniques et les expansions perturbatrices pour les effets de Stark et de Zeeman.Note de contenu :
