Les systèmes de classificateurs jouent un rôle majeur dans l'apprentissage automatique et les systèmes basés sur la connaissance, et le travail de Ross Quinlan sur ID3 et C4.5 est largement reconnu pour avoir apporté certaines des contributions les plus significatives à leur développement. Ce livre est un guide complet du système C4.5 tel qu'il est implémenté en C pour l'environnement UNIX. Il contient un guide complet sur l'utilisation du système, le code source (environ 8 800 lignes) et des notes de mise en œuvre.
C4.5 commence par de grands ensembles de cas appartenant à des classes connues. Les cas, décrits par n'importe quel mélange de propriétés nominales et numériques, sont examinés pour des modèles qui permettent de discriminer les classes de manière fiable. Ces modèles sont ensuite exprimés sous forme de modèles, sous la forme d'arbres de décision ou d'ensembles de règles if-then, qui peuvent être utilisés pour classer de nouveaux cas, l'accent étant mis sur la compréhension et la précision des modèles. Le système a été appliqué avec succès à des tâches impliquant des dizaines de milliers de cas décrits par des centaines de propriétés. La conception de l'interface utilisateur couvre toutes les phases utiles pour créer des applications Windows à la fois fonctionnelles et ergonomiques, allant de la création de formulaires à la création de contrôles en passant par l'implémentation de gestionnaires d'évènements et la validation des données saisies. Une introduction à la conception d'applications WPF est également incluse.

Ce livre s'adresse aux développeurs souhaitant maitriser le développement d'applications .Net avec le langage C# dans sa version 6.
Après un tour d'horizon de la plateforme .Net et une description des outils fournis par l'environnement Visual Studio 2015, le lecteur découvrira progressivement les éléments clés du langage C# et la programmation orientée objet, jusqu'à pouvoir appliquer ce concept au développement d'applications Windows avec WPF. Une initiation aux techniques de débogage avec Visual Studio lui permettra de parfaire sa maîtrise de l'outil.
Le développement d'applications client-serveur est ensuite traité par le thème de l'accès aux données avec ADO.Net. Une description complète de Linq au travers d'exemples concrets montre comment ses fonctionnalités simplifient la manipulation des données provenant de sources diverses. Un chapitre est ensuite consacré à la manipulation de données au format XML, permettant l'échange de données entre applications d'une manière simple et standardisée. La fin du cycle de développement est traitée à travers le déploiement d'une application avec les technologies Windows Installer puis ClickOnce.
