Au carrefour de l'informatique, de la biologie et de la psychologie, les réseaux de neurones formels se proposaient à l'origine de construire une intelligence artificielle s'inspirant des systèmes nerveux biologiques. Soixante ans plus tard, ils tiennent une place de choix parmi les algorithmes inspirés du vivant et on les trouve aussi bien dans les systèmes
téléphoniques ou les équipements industriels que dans certains appareils électroménagers. A partir de la métaphore biologique, ce livre présente l'ensemble des principaux types de réseaux neuronaux et en montre la dynamique, les capacités et les limites. On y découvrira la puissance des neurones de McCulloch et Pitts, qui éclairera la découverte du Perceptron simple puis de ses extensions multicouches qui sont au cœur du succès actuel du domaine. On verra comment construire ce type de mémoire qui nous permet de reconnaître quelqu'un, même si l'on ne distingue qu'une partie de son profil. Ceci permettra, grâce aux réseaux de Hopfield, d'illustrer toute la puissance de ces étranges réseaux récurrents, où les neurones s'influencent eux-mêmes. A la récurrence succédera sa cousine l'auto-organisation, avec l'étude des réseaux de Kohonen, utilisés parfois par les organismes de crédit pour évaluer leurs décisions. On illustrera également la convergence en cours des outils inspirés du vivant
avec une présentation des algorithmes évolutionnaires, que l'on appliquera ensuite aux réseaux neuronaux. Richement illustré et accompagné de nombreux exemples, cet ouvrage clair et accessible satisfera tant le lecteur ayant des connaissances de base en informatique que l'étudiant, le professionnel ou le chercheur, qui y puiseront bases formelles et références détaillées.
