Deux hypothèses pourraient expliquer l'apparition en informatique depuis une douzaine d'années de la conception orientée objet :
ou bien elle permet une modélisation simple et naturelle du monde réel, et alors elle s'imposerait comme une évidence,
ou bien elle est induite par l'utilisation croissante de langages orientés objet, et alors elle serait une fatalité.
L'ouvrage montre que seule la seconde hypothèse est vraie.
Il s'adresse donc aux professionnels, aux enseignants et aux étudiants qui pensent que le moment est venu de simplifier les modèles et de s'intéresser aux méthodes (les autres pouvant continuer avec UML).
Une première partie est consacrée à des généralités sur la conception, le monde objet, les différences entre conception classique et conception orientée objet et il propose une synthèse des modèles de base les plus utilisés en entreprises. Puis il développe une méthode mise au point à l'Université de Nice et il présente une étude de cas comparative complète.

Un réseau de capteurs sans fil (WSN) se compose d'un ensemble de nœuds
(capteurs). Ce type de réseau est utilisé pour effectuer une tâche spécifique
d'une application. Ces réseaux sont devenus de plus en plus populaires en raison
de leur large domaine d'applications (environnemental, militaire, sanitaire,
domotique ...), la réduction de la consommation d'énergie pour prolonger la
durée de vie du réseau est l'un des défis les plus importants. Notre protocole
proposé est d'assurer une bonne distribution de cluster-heads pour minimiser la
consommation d'énergie et donc prolonger la durée de vie du réseau en utilisant
