La statistique spatiale connaît un développement important du fait de son utilisation dans de nombreux domaines : sciences de la terre, environnement et climatologie, épidémiologie, économétrie, analyse d'image, etc... Ce livre présente les principaux modèles spatiaux utilisés ainsi que leur statistique pour les trois types de données : géostatistiques (observation sur un domaine continu), données sur réseau discret, données ponctuelles. L'objectif est présenter de façon concise mais mathématiquement complète les modèles les plus classiques (second ordre et variogramme ; modèle latticiel et champ de Gibbs-Markov ; processus ponctuels) ainsi que leur simulation par algorithme MCMC. Vient ensuite la présentation des outils statistiques utiles à leur étude. De nombreux exemples utilisant R illustrent les sujets abordés. Depuis 1995, le microscope à force atomique sans contact (NC-AFM) a réalisé des progrès remarquables. Basé sur des méthodes nanomécaniques, le NC-AFM détecte la faible force d'attraction entre la pointe d'un porte-à -faux et une surface d'échantillon. Cette méthode a les caractéristiques suivantes: elle a une vraie résolution atomique; il peut mesurer des interactions de force atomique, c'est-à -dire il peut être utilisé dans ce qu'on appelle la spectroscopie à force atomique (AFS); il peut également être utilisé pour étudier les isolants; et il peut mesurer des réponses mécaniques telles que la déformation élastique. C'est le premier livre qui traite de tous les problèmes émergents de NC-AFM.
