La Société de Mathématiques Appliquées et Industrielles (SMAI), fondée en 1983, s'est fixé comme objectif la promotion des mathématiques appliquées. Dans cet esprit, la SMAI a créé une collection d'ouvrages Mathématiques & Applications, dont voici un nouveau numéro.
Le but de cette collection est d'éditer des textes de niveau 3ème cycle universitaire ou de dernière année d'école d'ingénieurs. Les lecteurs concernés sont donc des étudiants, mais également des chercheurs et ingénieurs qui veulent s'initier aux méthodes et aux résultats des mathématiques appliquées. Certains ouvrages auront ainsi une vocation purement pédagogique alors que d'autres pourront constituer des textes de référence.
La principale source de manuscrits réside dans les très nombreux cours qui sont enseignés en France, compte tenu de la variété des Diplômes d'Etudes Approfondies (D.E.A.), des Diplômes d'Études Supérieures Spécicilisées (D.E.S.S.) ou des options de mathématiques appliquées dons les écoles d'ingénieurs. Mais ce n'est pas l'unique source: certains textes pourront avoir une autre origine.
Ce livre résulte de notes de cours sur la stabilité des structures, cours de spécialité offert à l'Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, à l'Ecole Polytechnique et ainsi qu'en DEA Mécanique. Il s'agit d'une présentation simple et auto-cohérente des principaux résultats de la théorie de stabilité et bifurcation des structures. Si le premier objectif reste l'enseignement et l'initiation, ce livre intéresse aussi les ingénieurs et les lecteurs avertis qui cherchent une présentation naturelle et moderne sur Ici stabilité faisant le lien entre les traités d'ingénieurs et les ouvrages de recherche plus complets mais aussi d'accès plus difficile.Note de contenu :
