Cet ouvrage s'adresse, en particulier, aux étudiants de Licence n'ayant encore aucune notion de la théorie de la relativité. Il constitue donc un outil de travail très utile pour la préparation d'examens, de concours, d'exposés ou d'articles. La relativité d'Einstein est par bien des aspects une théorie étrange. Heureusement, cela n'interdit nullement qu'elle puisse être bien comprise. Parmi les sujets traités dans cet ouvrage, citons entre autres la cinématique, la dynamique, les systèmes de particules, la théorie électromagnétique et le formalisme tensoriel. De plus, une attention toute particulière est consacrée à la résolution de soi-disant paradoxes attribués à cette théorie, comme celui des " jumeaux de Langevin "". Les autres particularités pédagogiques de cet ouvrage sont l'utilisation d'une représentation graphique originale de la relativité restreinte, l'illustration de la théorie par de nombreux exemples basés sur les (futurs ?) voyages interstellaires, et la construction des équations de transformation de Lorentz, à la fois suivant une démarche historique et suivant une approche moderne beaucoup plus générale. La bonne compréhension d'une théorie se manifeste par la capacité de résoudre des problèmes spécifiques.
