Titre : Advancing Biochemistry Practical Training Through Digital Transformation : A Blended Laboratory Framework for Algerian Universities Type de document : document électronique Auteurs : Khaoula Bouafassa, Auteur ; Ilham Belattache, Auteur ; Karbab,Ahlem, Directeur de thèse Editeur : Sétif [Algérie] : Faculté des sciences de la Nature et de la vie, Université Ferhat Abbas Sétif 1 Année de publication : 2025 Importance : 39 Feuilles Format : ISBN/ISSN/EAN : MS/2508 Langues : Anglais Catégories : Thèse et mémoire:Master:Biochimie appliquée Mots-clés : Algerian universities Artificial intelligence Biochemistry education Blended learning Educational technology Student perception Traditional laboratories Virtual laboratories. Résumé :
This study investigates the transition towards advanced virtual laboratories as a complementary solution to the challenges facing traditional practical education in biochemistry at Ferhat Abbas University – Setif 1, Algeria. While conventional laboratories remain essential for acquiring precise practical skills such as laboratory handling, titration, and extraction, they face significant constraints, including high equipment costs, material shortages, safety risks associated with chemicals or biological specimens, and logistical challenges, which often disrupt experimental work and hinder learning outcomes. The study employed a descriptive-analytical approach through a structured survey administered to 100 students from the Faculty of Natural and Life Sciences, aiming to assess laboratory experiences, identify major challenges, and explore students’ acceptance of digital alternatives. Results revealed that equipment scarcity (47%) and the high cost of reagents and technologies were the main obstacles. About 38% of students expressed conditional acceptance of virtual laboratories, depending on the realism and interactivity of the simulations. Key desired features for the virtual platform included audiovisual explanations (26%), bilingual support in Arabic and English (21%), and interactive experiments (20%). Additionally, 69% of students preferred a hybrid platform accessible via both a website and mobile applications, with a monthly subscription fee of 1500–2000 DZ considered appropriate. In response to these needs, an advanced digital educational platform was developed, integrating theoretical learning with practical applications through AI-enhanced 3D virtual laboratories. The platform allows instructors to deliver live lessons, share videos and educational documents, manage practical activities, and monitor students’ progress continuously while analyzing individual and group performance through AI tools, thereby enhancing teaching effectiveness and academic follow-up.The study concludes that a blended learning model, strategically combining traditional laboratories with virtual laboratories, represents a feasible and cost-effective strategy to overcome existing barriers. This approach enhances flexibility, accessibility, and overall effectiveness in practical biochemistry education in Algeria, aligning with the university’s broader digital transformation objectives.Advancing Biochemistry Practical Training Through Digital Transformation : A Blended Laboratory Framework for Algerian Universities [document électronique] / Khaoula Bouafassa, Auteur ; Ilham Belattache, Auteur ; Karbab,Ahlem, Directeur de thèse .

Ethnopharmacolgical study, toxicity and evaluation of in vivo anti-inflammatory activity of Stipa tenacissima L. extracts [document électronique] / Nesrine Tabtoub, Auteur ; Nesrine Oulhi, Auteur ; Karbab,Ahlem, Directeur de thèse . - Setif, Algerie : Faculté des sciences de la nature et de la vie, 2022 . - 45 Feuilles.

Résumé :
The Silybum marianum is one of the most important plants used in traditional medicine. It is
an herbaceous plant from the asteraceae family and originally grows in the Mediterranean
region. Our study aims to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, as well as
the toxicity and anticoagulant properties of Silybum marianum seeds. We employed two
extraction methods (soaking and boiling) and conducted qualitative and quantitative chemical
analyses of these extracts. Additionally, we assessed the antioxidant activity using the DPPH
free radical scavenging assay and the anti-inflammatory activity (in vivo) using the ear edema
model. Furthermore, we evaluated the toxicity and anticoagulant activity.
The results showed that the ethanolic extract had a higher yield percentage of 3.71% compared
to the aqueous extract. The chemical analysis of Silybum marianum seeds revealed significant
amounts of polyphenols, flavonoids, free quinones, and tannins, while saponins were absent.
Regarding the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, the ethanolic extract exhibited
values of 84.56% and an inhibitory concentration of 0.24 mg/mL, respectively. The extracts
did not cause any changes in behavior or mortality of the treated animals. The calculated lethal
dose (LD50) was 2g/1kg of body weight.Evaluation of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxydant activity of the seeds of Silybum marianum L. Antioxidant Anti-inflammatory Anticoagulant activities Secondary metabolites. Résumé :
Portulaca oleracea L., commonly known as "Redjla" and belonging to the Portulacaceae family, is a widely used food plant with both culinary and medicinal properties. This study aimed to investigate the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticoagulant effects of aqueous decoction derived from the seeds of this plant. The extract yield was determined to be 4.93%. The total polyphenol, flavonoid, and tannin contents of the decoctions were determined using spectrophotometric colorimetric methods. The analysis of this extract revealed the presence of secondary metabolites such as total polyphenols, estimated at 69.10 ± 2.43 mg EGA/gDE, flavonoids also present at 5.63 ± 0.37 mg EQ/gDE, and tannins, which are likely to express the desired activities. The antioxidant activity was assessed through the DPPH free radical scavenging technique, yielding an IC50 value of (0.116±0.02 mg/mL) demonstrated the extract's ability to trap radicals. The anti-inflammatory activity in vitro was evaluated at different concentrations (16 mg/mL, 8 mg/mL, and 4 mg/mL) using aspirin as reference drug. The results showed significant inhibition of inflammation at all concentrations tested. Furthermore, the anticoagulant activity of the aqueous extracts was evaluated by measuring the clotting time in seconds at different concentrations (4 mg/mL, 2 mg/mL, and 1 mg/mL). The results indicated prolonged clotting times, suggesting possible anticoagulant effects in the aqueous extracts. Overall, the study showed that aqueous extracts of Portulaca oleracea seeds exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticoagulant activities, which can be attributed to their high content of polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins. These results support the traditional use of Portulaca oleracea as a medicinal plant with potential health benefits.Evaluation of antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulant activities of Portulaca oleracea L.
