Titre : Evaluation of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxydant activity of the seeds of Silybum marianum L. Type de document : document électronique Auteurs : Niamat Allah Mili, Auteur ; Nour Elhouda Semcha, Auteur ; Karbab,Ahlem, Directeur de thèse Editeur : Faculté des sciences de la nature et de la vie Année de publication : 2023 Importance : 41 Feuilles ISBN/ISSN/EAN : MS/1490 Langues : Français Catégories : Thèse et mémoire:Master:Immunologie Mots-clés : Silyum marianum Antioxidants Anti-inflammatory toxicity Anticoagulant. Résumé :
The Silybum marianum is one of the most important plants used in traditional medicine. It is
an herbaceous plant from the asteraceae family and originally grows in the Mediterranean
region. Our study aims to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, as well as
the toxicity and anticoagulant properties of Silybum marianum seeds. We employed two
extraction methods (soaking and boiling) and conducted qualitative and quantitative chemical
analyses of these extracts. Additionally, we assessed the antioxidant activity using the DPPH
free radical scavenging assay and the anti-inflammatory activity (in vivo) using the ear edema
model. Furthermore, we evaluated the toxicity and anticoagulant activity.
The results showed that the ethanolic extract had a higher yield percentage of 3.71% compared
to the aqueous extract. The chemical analysis of Silybum marianum seeds revealed significant
amounts of polyphenols, flavonoids, free quinones, and tannins, while saponins were absent.
Regarding the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities, the ethanolic extract exhibited
values of 84.56% and an inhibitory concentration of 0.24 mg/mL, respectively. The extracts
did not cause any changes in behavior or mortality of the treated animals. The calculated lethal
dose (LD50) was 2g/1kg of body weight.Evaluation of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxydant activity of the seeds of Silybum marianum L.
