Ecological succession is a fundamental process that shapes the structure and
composition of ecosystems over time. While disturbances and changes in abiotic
factors are well-established drivers of succession, the role of diseases in driving
ecological succession has gained increasing attention. This research review aims to
explore the various ways in which diseases can act as drivers of ecological
succession, focusing on their impacts on population dynamics, species interactions,
and community structure. By examining relevant studies and case examples, this
review highlights the complex and dynamic interplay between diseases and
ecological succession, providing insights into the mechanisms and consequences of
