Résumé : Stipa tenacissima L. is a medicinal plant traditionally used in Algeria to treat various health conditions, including weight loss, diabetes, and high blood pressure. In this study, secondary metabolites, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities of decoction extract of S. tenacissima were estimated. The aqueous extract was rich in polyphenols and flavonoids with values of 97,02 ± 0,56 mg GAE/g and 50.45 ± 1.65 mg QE/g respectively. Antioxidant activity was evaluated, as demonstrated by the hydrogen peroxide (Hâ‚‚Oâ‚‚) scavenging assay (IC50=0.571 ± 0.0252 mg/ml) and the ferric reducing power assay (IC50=0.261 ± 0.006 mg/ml). The anti inflammatory properties were evaluated both in vitro and in vivo. The in vitro egg albumin denaturation test showed an inhibition value of 79.2%, while the xylene-induced ear edema test recorded a reduction in inflammation 72.5% for 100 mg/kg. S. tenacissima was found to be rich in polyphenols and flavonoids and demonstrated effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities across all tests. These findings support the traditional use of S. tenacissima in herbal medicine and suggest its potential as a safe natural remedy for conditions involving inflammation and oxidative stress.
