Résumé : |
The knowledge of human immunology has improved exponentially in recent years, and more advances in the near future are certainly imminent. Several actors have been involved in these advancements, and the most important ones include the development of thousands of different monoclonal antibodies. The development of recombinant protein technologies and engineering tools such as expression systems, Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells and microbiol cells (Escherichia coli) and transgenic animal models using new technologies such as clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system have greatly participated in the improvement of our knowledge regarding immune-mediated illnesses and how the immune system works and interacts with other systems and components (such as the microbiome) and also in terms of ways to manipulate this system through immunotherapy. The development of different types of immunotherapies, including vaccines (prophylactic and therapeutic), the use of pathogens, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, cytokines, and adoptive cellular immunotherapies, are changing the way in which we approach many diseases, especially cancer. These evolutions paved the way for biopharmaceuticals to be produced in large amount and high quality. |
