Résumé : |
The medicinal plant Lavandula angustifolia is well-known for its variety of uses in folk medicine. The current work aimed to investigate some of the bioactivities that this small centaury is thought to have. An ethnopharmacological study was conducted to highlight its traditional uses. A phytochemical screening was used to determine the chemical composition and present secondary metabolites in the plant's ethanol extract, and a quantitative analysis was performed to assess the plant's polyphenol, flavonoid, and tanin content. Additionally, the antioxidant activity was tested using DPPH radical scavenging activity and the anti- inflammatory activity was investigated using the xylene and croton oil induced ear edema in mice method. In addition the acute toxicity, anticoagulant and in vitro anti diabetic activity were investigated. The ethnopharmacological investigation revealed the many therapeutic benefits of Lavandula angustifolia L. The qualitative study revealed a diversity and richness in secondary metabolites, which are sugar, phenolics, flavonoids, tanins, alkaloids, coumarins, free quinones, and even though this plant is underappreciated in our nation . While the enthraquinones and proteins and saponins were absent for quantitative analysis , we obtained good amount in polyphenols ,flavonoids and tanins estimated with of 33.64 ± 1.36 μg (Gallic acid equivalen), 9.77 ± 0.6 μg (Quercitin equivelent), and 31.99 ± 0.59 μg (Catechin equivalent)/mg dry extract . Meanwhile antioxidant activity showed IC50 of 0.43 mg/ml ,on the other hand ethanolic extract showed anti-inflammatory activity with a percentage at concentration of(4 and 16 mg/ml) 24.45 to 88.13%.our results showed anticoagulant and antidiabetic activities . Lavandula angustifolia L. had no toxic effects at 2g/kg . as what our experince has elucidated ,small centaury has divers pharmacological activities which is related to it’s rich chemical composition in secondary metabolites, further researches target specific compounds of small centaury all in optimizing used methods |
