Résumé : |
Atractylis belongs to the Asteraceae family and is widespread in the Mediterranean region and North Africa, occupying an important place in medicine where its many pharmacological effects are due to its wealth of active substances. The aim of this study was to estimate the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of this plant's leaves. Quantification showed that the ethanolic extract contained 12.25 ± 0.078 mg EGA/g DW and 0.046 mg EQ/g DW of polyphenols and flavonoids respectively. Antioxidant activity was also estimated using four methods, where the extract showed a scavenging effect on DPPH radicals with a lower IC50= 0.42 ± 0.007 mg/ml compared to the positive control BHT, while H2O2 had was estimated at IC50=0.047 ± 0.008 mg/ml a small amount compared to the Vit C positive control, while the Fe2+chelating activity of the extract was estimated at IC50=0.73±0.03 mg/ml is lower compared to the EDTA positive control. The antioxidant activity of Ferric Thiocyanate (FTC) by the extract showed a low capacity of 4.19% compared to the positive control Vit C and BHT. These results suggest that this plant can be used as a source of antioxidants that help in the treatment of many diseases associated with oxidative stress. |
