The aim of this study is to estimate the anticoagulant and the antithrombotic activities of the aqueous extract of C. diluta, an endemic plant belonging to Asteraceae family. The plasma of healthy volunteers was used in order to apply three tests, which are the time, prothrombin time, coagulation time and thrombolysis activity. The results showed that C. diluta decoction has the ability to prolong the clotting time at the concentration 50 mg/ml to24,33±1,88 min. As for prothrombin time, 10 and 20 mg/ml concentrations do not significantly affect coagulation, while 50 mg/ml concentration has a strong effect with value of 12,76±1,91 sec, which indicated that high concentrations are able of exerting anticoagulant activity. In the thrombolysis test, the extract showed a moderate ability to lyses the thrombosis with best effect at a concentration 50 mg/ml 20,86±0,31%. The results obtained support the idea of using this plant in folk medicine as anticoagulant agent. |
