Résumé : |
Lepidium spp. plant is widely used in traditional medicine for its therapeutic properties. It is widely used in the treatment of high cholesterol because they contain biologically active compounds. For this purpose, this study was designed, which aims to determine the dosage of polyphenols and flavonoids and study the antioxidant activity of the ethanolic extract of Lepidium spp. seeds through several methods. Tests include the DPPH free radical scavenger test, iron chelation, the H2O2 hydrogen peroxide radical scavenger test, and the lipid oxidation inhibition test using both ferric thiocyanate (FTC) and thiobarburic (TBA). The chemical study showed that the ethanolic extract contains polyphenols in an amount estimated at 52.138 ± 2.684 μg gallic acid equivalent/g dry weight of extract. As for the determination of flavonoids, the results showed that it contains 0.463±0.011μg of quercetin equivalent/mg of dry weight of the extract. For the antioxidant activity, the radical scavenger capacity (IC50) of DPPH of the extract was estimated at 0.048± 0.026 mg/ml compared to BHT, which gave a value of 0.026± 0.0006 mg/ml. The results also showed that the seed extract has an ability to capture iron ions with a value of 0.501± 0.371 mg/ml compared to the control EDTA, which was estimated at 0.003±0.0005 mg/ml. As for the H2O2 radical scavenger test, the latter showed an activity of 0.347± 0.081 mg/ml compared to the control vitamin C, as a positive control whose scavenger capacity was estimated at 0.017± 0.001 mg/ml. lastly, in the lipid oxidation inhibition test, the extract showed a rather weak inhibitory ability in both the FTC and TBA tests, as it showed an activity of 0.0.97%, 14.386%, respectively. In conclusion, Lepidium spp. can be considered a source of antioxidants. |
