This work aims to contribute to the improvement of knowledge on the biodiversity and distribution of Culicidae. The fieldwork was conducted over approximately three months in the Wilaya of Sétif. Our monthly collection of Culicidae larvae was carried out in three regions within the Wilaya of Sétif: Ouled Tabban, Dam of El Maouan, and El Baz. The study identified four species of Culicidae: Culiseta longiareolata, Culex pipiens, Culex hortensis, and Culiseta annulata, belonging to the two genera Culex and Culiseta. In terms of larval and pupal density, Culiseta longiareolata was found to be the most prevalent species in the study area. Toxicity tests also demonstrated the larvicidal activity of the essential oil of the plant Artemisia herba-alba against Culiseta longiareolata after 24, 48, and 72 hours of exposure using different concentrations (300μL, 500μL, 700μL, 800μL). These results suggest that the essential oil of Artemisia herba-alba and other similar plant essential oils can be effective in controlling mosquito populations without posing a risk to humans or the environment. |
