Metallurgical failure analysis is vitally important to materials, metallurgical, and mechanical engineers responsible for the evaluation of faulty machinery and structural components. This reference provides an introduction to the basic principles of conditions leading to fracture and the methods for determining the causes of failure in metal parts. The book explains the methods for conducting a successful failure analysis, and describes the tools used in making such analyses. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of fracture surfaces to determine why failure occurred.
